Subject: Important Message: GMSC Rules Updated
From: Grande Maumelle Sailing Club

Dear Members,

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and well-functioning club for all our members, we have completed a review and update of our GMSC rules. You can find a copy of the current GMSC rules posted on our website in the section called ABOUT US | BYLAWS and RULES or by clicking this link.

The updated rules reflect our dedication to elevating safety standards, offering clear guidance and minimizing potential liabilities. These changes were made with thoughtful consideration and input from valued members who served on the Rules Committee including Sherri Jo McLemore, Greg Hamilton, Yates Phillips, Tracy Sykes, Jeremy Shapley, Neal Zeman, and David Nigus in addition to review by the GMSC board.

Key highlights of the updated rules include:

  • Membership Changes: Membership structure and dues did NOT change. The section was updated to clarify membership privileges primarily around crane usage (full members only, who are crane certified).
  • Clubhouse Rules: We have introduced new guidelines to improve the use and enjoyment of our clubhouse facilities.  As a gentle reminder, pets are not permitted inside the clubhouse. However, we are pleased to clarify that they are welcome on the deck, provided they are kept on a leash.
  • Crane Usage: We have clarified the rules surrounding the use of our crane area.  To provide equitable access to the equipment, we have implanted a new reservation system for the crane stands, both fixed and mobile. Members are now required to make reservations via the Equipment Chair, which can be held for a maximum of 15 days.  If you are a regular user of Kiko’s corner, please review these rules.
  • Parking Lot – We have clarified the rules surrounding the use of our parking lot.
  • GMSC Code of Conduct: We refreshed our code of conduct, which serves as a guiding framework for our interactions and behavior within the club.
  • Emergency Action Plan: The Emergency Action Plan has been linked for easy access, underscoring our commitment to safety.
  • Keelboat Slips Maintenance: We clarified rules regarding the right to use keelboat slips and the corresponding duty to maintain, including the process and penalties for failure to maintain in accordance with GMSC standards.
  • Use of Club-Owned Boats: We refined the process for checking out club-owned boats and emphasized safety precautions and care of the boats when in use.

We encourage all members to review the revised rules, which can be found on our website. Understanding and adhering to these guidelines is essential for the well-being of our club and the enjoyment of our members.

Should you have any questions or require further clarification on any of the updates, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Warm regards,

Mary Michaels -  GMSC Commodore
