School may be out, but adventure is in the air—Catch the Wind This Summer as GMSC launches its exclusive Junior Learn-to-Sail (JLTS) program, June 9–13. This special opportunity is open only to children and grandchildren of current GMSC members, ages 7 to 16, and is designed for both beginners and intermediate-level sailors.
Our young sailors will learn on Optimists and Sunfish under the guidance of Gillian “Lou” Shapley, who returns as our head coach. A product of the JLTS program herself, Lou recently earned her U.S. Sailing Small Boat Instructor certification. After serving as Assistant Coach last summer, she’s well-prepared to lead this season’s camp with skill and energy.
The program will also feature additional assistant coaches and junior counselors—many of whom are past JLTS participants—giving older youth a chance to step into leadership roles.
As always, parent and grandparent volunteers play a vital role in making this week a success. Whether you're helping with shore support, organization, or coaching logistics, there are many ways to contribute.
This is more than just a sailing camp—it’s the beginning of a lifelong connection to the water and to our sailing community.
