The Grande Maumelle Sailing Club is set to begin an important seawall project at Kiko’s Corner, with construction anticipated to start in mid-December once water levels allow access to the site. This long-awaited project is a significant undertaking, made possible by the dedication and expertise of club members and partners.
Mary Michaels, the club’s commodore, expressed her gratitude for the hard work and collaboration that has led to this stage. A special acknowledgment goes to David Nigus for his diligent efforts in identifying the issue, exploring potential solutions, and securing a proposal from Foundation Specialties.
Club engineers Joe Hilliard and Mark Barton have played pivotal roles, contributing their professional expertise throughout the project’s planning phase. Joe managed the complex task of obtaining all necessary permits, while Mark has been coordinating directly with Foundation Specialties and will oversee operations on-site to ensure a seamless process.
The seawall work is scheduled to officially commence on January 2, weather permitting, with preparation activities kicking off beforehand. To gear up for the start date, members can look forward to a work party event to assist in pre-construction tasks. The project is expected to last approximately three weeks, provided weather conditions remain favorable.
Access Restrictions at Kiko’s Corner
As part of the construction plan, Kiko’s Corner, including the crane and adjacent areas, will be closed from December 15 through February 28. Members are urged to complete any boat-related work in this area before December 15. During the closure, no boats, vehicles, or boat parts will be permitted in the restricted zone, and the crane will be off-limits.
The club will reopen Kiko’s Corner ahead of schedule if construction concludes sooner than expected. For any questions or updates on the Kiko’s Corner seawall project, members should contact the club commodore, and stay tuned for further announcements through club communications.
